2022 Pender Pride Events!

WE’RE GETTING READY FOR PENDER PRIDE AND LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US SET AND TAKE DOWN THE FESTIVAL AT THE DRIFTWOOD CENTRE ON SATURDAY, 20TH AUGUST FROM 9AM……… CAN YOU HELP? COME AND JOIN US ON SATURDAY MORNING

Preparations are underway for Pender Island Pride Events. We’ve had to be flexible and adapt to health guidance over the last two years. Our planned events for 2022 are based upon current guidance. If required, we will adapt and make changes to our events.

So far, our planned events are…….

Pride Shopping at Nu2You

Sunday, 14th August: PRIDE Shopping at Nu2You– An opportunity to shop for those ‘must have’ items to wear at the ‘Golf’s A Drag’; to decorate a golf cart, or for the parade and festival. Nu2You will open their doors for this event from 11am-1pm. With everyone’s safety in mind, masks will be required at this event.

‘Golf’s A Drag!’

‘Golf’s A Drag’ in collaboration with Pender Island Golf & Country Club.
9 Holes of Golf + Dinner* + Prizes
Theme: Rainbows
When: Friday August 19, 2022 – Tee Off at 4:30pm.
Arrive @4pm to get organized. Dinner at 6:30pm
Where: Pender Island Golf & Country Club, 2305 Otter Bay Road, Pender Island

ADVANCE REGISTRATION for GOLF is REQUIRED as numbers are limited.
Please contact the pro shop at 250-629-6659 or pigolf@shaw.ca for GOLF SIGN-UP and cart & club reservation.

Cost: GOLF: $20pp* for Non-Members and $10pp* for Members of PI Golf Club.
DINNER: $25pp including vegetarian/meat lasagna, caesar salad and dessert.
*Including a $5 donation to the Pender Island Pride Society
Format: Golf Scramble (Best Ball). A fun, easy and no pressure format. No previous
golf experience required. Unless previously arranged “teams” will be organized at
the golf course.
Prizes: Various prizes will be awarded such as: Best Dressed, Closest to Pin, Trick
Shot, Closest to Centreline, Best Decorated Golf Cart/Bag, Best “Sport” and Best
Team Name.

Pride ‘Strolling’ Parade & Festival

Saturday, 20th August: ‘Pender Pride Strolling Parade’ We are currently consulting with the RCMP and Highways Department to hold a strolling parade from Browning to the Driftwood Centre. Our route will be along Hamilton Road and across Bedwell Harbour Road. Once these plans are finalized we will provide more details. Our aim is to meet at Browning at 1pm; start the parade by 1.30 and for everyone to be at the Drift by 2pm.

Saturday, 20th August: Pender Pride Performers’ Stage on the Driftwood Centre Lawn. An afternoon of entertainment and shared laughter, with community information and Pride merchandise available. Our thanks to Dorothy Murdoch for her support and to Kyle Jones for agreeing to MC this event again.

If you would like to be part of a great team of volunteers who plan and implement Pride events, consider joining this year’s PI Pride Festival Team. We will be holding a Volunteer Information Meeting on Wednesday, 10th August on the lawn at the Driftwood Centre at 6.30pm. We hope you can join us!
